In line with the European Green Deal that represents a concerted strategy for a climate-neutral, resource-efficient and competitive economy, the TAB City Counsil is committed to promote the principles of the circular economy in the South Balaton region.

The overall objective for the region is building up a multi-stakeholder governance structure that supports circular economy and closing the loop of waste chain and minimize the amount of the produced waste in the South Balaton region. The transition of waste management in South Balaton region from linear to circular will improve the resilience and resource management capacities of the region facing challenges imposed by seasonality, tourism and external shocks (e.g. COVID-19).

The supporting document, a Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP) for the South Balaton region entitled Without Waste – (WIWA) – Closing The Resource Loop in The South Balaton Region has been prepared by HETFA Research Institute. The CEAP can be accessed HERE.

The Action Plan presents a set of interrelated initiatives to establish a strong and coherent policy framework that will make sustainable products, services and business models the norm and transform consumption patterns so that no waste is produced in the first place. The high priority waste streams in the region are bio-waste and packaging materials, such as paper and plastics.
